DuckDuckGo unveiled its AI Chat feature

DuckDuckGo, the privacy-focused web browser, recently unveiled its AI Chat feature to all users after initially offering it to a select group in beta. This feature allows users to interact with AI models while maintaining their anonymity. The company has made this feature available to all users for free, albeit with limited access, while also offering a paid plan for those seeking additional features.

The AI Chat feature on DuckDuckGo currently supports four AI models, including two proprietary and two open-sourced models. The company claims that the conversations conducted through AI Chat are private and not utilized for training the AI models. DuckDuckGo ensures user privacy by handling personal information, such as IP addresses, on behalf of the users, thus preventing exposure of sensitive data.

Users can engage in conversations with the AI Chat feature without concerns about privacy, as DuckDuckGo has established agreements with the AI model providers to restrict the usage of data obtained from anonymous prompts. The company emphasizes that all received data is deleted within 30 days, with exceptions for safety and legal compliance. DuckDuckGo assures users that their chats are stored temporarily by the model providers without any means of linking them back to individual users due to the removal of metadata.

DuckDuckGo says its roadmap includes “includes adding more chat models and browser entry points.” It is also working on a paid subscription plan for AI Chat, as well as the inclusion of more AI models.
