Gears Of War

The New Game From Gear Of War Franchise

The Coalition is embarking on a nostalgic journey with Gears of War: E-Day, transporting fans back to the origins of the franchise. This means delving into the terrifying events of Emergence Day and the menacing Locust horde. Brand Director Nicole Fawcette and Creative Director Matt Searcy shed light on the studio’s intention to focus on the “scary” elements of Gears during an interview with IGN. Searcy explains that their aim is to capture a specific moment in time and narrate an intimate story about the experiences of the people in one of Sera’s cities.

The team views this as a “what-if” scenario, contemplating the consequences if the ground were to rupture and unleash monstrous creatures. Although the game is set in a fictional world, it explores very human reactions and narratives. Searcy emphasizes the desire to create a horror-like atmosphere, drawing inspiration from players’ memories of the series. The dark and eerie moments that stood out to players in previous Gears games serve as the foundation for the game they are building. The story revolves around reintroducing the Locust as formidable adversaries, revealing an army that surpasses everyone’s expectations.

Gears of War: E-Day deviates from the storylines of Gears of War 4 and Gears 5, but The Coalition assures fans that they have not abandoned that era of the Gears saga indefinitely. Searcy explains that the decision to revisit the past was not due to a lack of interest in the previous storyline, but rather a desire to explore the relationship between Marcus and Dom once again. The studio’s next Gears of War game will provide a fresh perspective while still honoring the legacy of the franchise.
